The Merry Happy Hittys Get A New Home

Over the past few months the Merry Happy Hittys family has outgrown their home.  I decided that they needed more room, so I spent yesterday preparing my 1:12 scale dollhouse so the Hittys could move into it.

Here’s my 1:12 scale dollhouse.  It was built by my pops and son last year.  Since I wanted a victorian style house with high ceilings, it’s plenty big enough to use as a Hitty house.

When they made it, I only got as far as decorating the living room, then it sat unused in storage mainly because I found it very difficult to find things to decorate it with.

I pulled it out of storage yesterday and decided to use what I had on hand to decorate it for the Hittys.

First I painted the Den and Kitchen ceilings white using basic acrylic paints.

Here I have painted one of the bedrooms a lovely mint green.

And another of the bedrooms I wanted to be blue to match the Hitty bed, so I painted the ceiling a lovely light blue.

I wanted the 3rd bedroom to be decorated in dark colors like purple and black, so I painted the ceiling a lighter shade of purple to compliment the walls that I do later.

The tiny room is to be the storage room, I paint the ceiling, floor and walls a grey color to give it a “closet” feel.  I may redo this room later.

Now that my painting is done, I let the ceiling dry then I start decorating the walls and floors of each room.

I use shelving paper on the kitchen walls, the shelving paper has cute little hearts and matches my Hitty stove perfectly.  Here it’s still wet, there’s a few bubbles in it, but I plan to fix these later.

I use scrapbook paper to decorate the den walls, I love the vivid brown and green stripes of this paper.  I did not have enough to cover all 3 walls so I used a darker striped paper on the wall with the oval doorway.

I glue a piece of beige scrapbook paper on the floor of the den.  You can’t see it in the picture, but it has a nice light tile print on it.

I also use scrapbook paper on the kitchen floor.

Now that the den and kitchen are complete, I cover the walls in the “Green” bedroom with green stripes and a lovely matching floral paper.

The green bedroom gets a carper like flooring, here I glued down some nice green upholstery fabric that I have.  It has a lovely tiny print that’s just the right size for Hittys.

I decorate the “Blue” bedroom in a light blue paper with tiny dots and a nice border print.  I use a solid paper for the 3rd wall, here I forgot to cut the door out beforehand, so I had to wait for the glue to dry so I could use a razor to cut it out.

The blue bedroom gets a tile flooring also, using matching scrapbook paper.

The “Purple” bedroom gets a nice purple stripe wall, and 2 floral walls.  One can’t see the floral print in the photo, but up close it looks fabulous!

The purple room also gets carper made from upholstery fabric.  I love the print of this fabric, and feel that it makes wonderful carpeting.

I like the look of plain wood in the attic, so I leave it unpainted and use a nice plush upholstery fabric to carpet the floor in a nice plush brown carpet to compliment the unpainted wood.  I may paint the back wall later, but right now I am pleased with how this looks.

Once all the glue dries, I start moving the Hittys into their new home.  Here Hitty Sue, Hitty Elsie and Hitty Jessie enjoy the new living room.  They want some more books, maybe a TV and a painting for the wall, but for now, they are pleased to just have more room.

Hitty Dot enjoys the den, she and her dolly Kat enjoy relaxing in the den as they listen to the clock chime every hour.  Hitty Dot feels that the den needs a rug and a coffee table, but for now she’s very pleased with the setting.

Hitty Lavon is hungry after all the work, so she camps out in the kitchen gobbling veggies, sweets and breads.   She says the kitchen is just perfect, but is in need of more food and some dishes.  She says that she is tired of eating with her fingers off the tabletop.

Hitty Pershing visist the green bedroom.  This is Hitty Dots personal room, but Hitty Pershing has claimed it as her own until a bed can be made for it.  For now it holds their trunk of clothing and their dress stand, these items will be moved to the attic after Christmas when the tree is put in storage.

The storage room holds the Hitty gardenign tools and a few odds and ends.

Bitty Hitty is pleased with the purple room, her bed fits in it perfectly as does her nightstand.  She’s so happy to finally have a bedroom all her own!

Savannah and Jody enjoy the blue room, they are a bit fussy because they don’t have room for a nightstand or dresser.  But they are pleased with what they have, and hope to have bunk beds in the future so that there will be more room.

The Christmas tree is decorated in the attic.  On Christmas day the Hittys will be moving the tables to the attic so they can all enjoy Christmas dinner by the tree.

After Christmas Hitty Elsie will be using half of the attic as her bedroom, the other half will be used as a combination storage - play area.

Here is the Hitty house so far.  I will be adding molding at a later date to clean up the corners and edges.  I also hope to acquire more furniture and wall hangings, as well as tiny items to decorate the home with.

The wood in front of the house will be the yard once I find some nice grass material, the outside I hope to cover in polymer bricks and I plan to use sandpaper to make roofing tiles for the top of the house.

For now, the Merry Happy Hittys are just happy to have such a grand and roomy house to live in!
