Meet Lavon, My Seventh Hitty

Here’s my seventh Hitty carved, Hitty Lavon.   She is made of basswood, and has such a sweet expression.  I decided that she would be the perfect friend for Hitty Dot, so she’s now a member of the Merry Happy Hittys family.

I named her Lavon after my husband (whose middle name is Lavon) because without his loving support and encouragement, I would have given up on trying to carve long ago.

I’ve come a long way since carving my first Hitty, Hitty Cadaver, and Hitty Lavon marks the end to a long journey of obtaining a Hitty that is sweet, special and that has a certain charm that I had been looking for, for many years.

Now that she has been born,  I will start a new journey where I strive to carve a Hitty that is aged like the real Hitty.  I expect this to be a long journey as well, but one thing I have learned is that with enough practice (and support from ones family and friends), one can do anything they set their mind to doing.

Here’s an illustration to show where I began, and where Hitty Lavon ends.

Hitty Cadaver is the doll on the left, she’s well loved by my youngest daughter.  I’ll say that I’ve improved greatly since my first attempt at carving a wooden Hitty and that I can’t wait to see how I progress as I work towards carving the perfect aged Hitty.
