Introducing “Biker Hitty Knot Knot Scarlett”

Hitty Knot Knot is my 2nd Hitty carved this year, and her name makes me laugh every time I think about her. She was carved from a maple blank while taking Gale’s online carving class, and is named “Biker Hitty Knot Knot Scarlett” for various reasons. When she started as a blank, there was a tiny knot where her nose should have been placed. I carved the blank down and to my agony, the knot did not disappear but in fact got larger and larger.
Since she was carved while following the class, we shared photos of our “Hittys in progress” while working on them.
As she emerged, we had a lot of laughs about that knot, and it was suggested that she could just be a Biker Hitty to explain away that “road rash” on the side of her face.
That is how the Biker part of her name originated.
Once she was completed, I couldn’t rest. Her face did not look very pleasing to me. I figured I could leave her as she was or try to sand her face off and attempt for a prettier expression.
I decided to sleep on it, and when I woke up the next morning, still considering what I should do, it’s as if she was screeching to me “This is knot, knot me!”
I knew then I had to redo her face, the road rash was bad enough, the least I could do was try to at least make her expression prettier.
So I removed her face and hairline, and tried again. Here’s a photo of her “before” face and her “after” she had her makeover.
That’s how she became known as “Biker Hitty Knot Knot”.
When I shared a photo of her to the group, it was suggested that Scarlett would also be an appropriate name for her, so she became “Biker Hitty Knot Knot Scarlett”. I call her Hitty Knot Knot or Hitty Scar for short.
I had a lot of fun making her, she’s my first Hitty carved during a time when I could laugh and share with other carvers as many Hittys emerged from many hands.
Hitty Knot Knot is pleased to join the Merry Happy Hittys family, and she’s certainly been welcomed by the whole household.
Since she has a scar, I decided to make her a fancy dress with a crocheted color from coveted Java cat fabric that was a gift from my husband (who loves cats).
