Hitty Dot Has A New Friend

Hitty Dot has a new friend, Jody, who was carved from poplar wood this past week.  Jody is a fun friend to have and she and Hitty Dot have had an adventurous time playing together today!

“Let’s go outside to play” said Hitty Dot.  “I’ll show you the fun play areas”.

When they went outside, Jody decided to sit for a moment to enjoy the warm sun, only to be scared by a huge black and white monster that snuck up behind them!

“Don’t be afraid” laughs Hitty Dot, “that’s just Yeti, one of the family cats.  She has kittens that are fun to play with, they are more our size.  Come on, let’s go climb a tree and see if Yeti will follow us!”

As they were looking for a tree to climb, Jody discovered some beautiful red berries.

“Oh look at these Dot” said Jody, “Can we have some of these berries for dinner?”

“Oh no” exclaimed Hitty Dot, “These are nana berries and not good to eat.  They are pretty to look at but I wouldn’t eat them, it may make us sick. ”

After throwing a few berries back and forth, the two went to find a tree to climb.

“Weeeeeee look at me” screeched Jody as she swung from the Crepe Myrtle tree”.  “I can swing, this sure is a lot of fun!”

“Oh that does look  like fun” laughed Hitty Dot “but be careful, if you fall you may break your peg then our person would have to send you to the doll hospital.  Look at me, I can fly!”

When they tire of playing in the crepe myrtle tree, Hitty Dot whispers  “I want to show you a machine that is a lot of fun to play with”.

As they run across the yard, Jody stops and looks at another tree.  “What kind of tree is this” she asks.

“This is a Chinese Elm tree” answered Hitty Dot.  “Let’s climb it, it looks like it’s seeds are ready to pick, if they are I want to get some so I can grow a Hitty tree!”

They climb the tree and notice that the seeds are ready to be picked.

“Oh wonderful” exclaims Hitty Dot, “We can now grow Hitty trees”.

“What do you mean by Hitty trees” asks Jody “this tree is way too big to go with our Hitty house.”

“The chinese elm tree is also one of the trees that can be used to grow miniature trees called Bonsai” explained Hitty Dot.  “When we plant the seeds, we have to prune the plant so that it will stay small and so it will get very leafy.  It’ll grow into a miniature tree so long as we keep it pruned down to whatever size we want it to be.”

“Oh wonderful” exclaims Jody, “please get a few seeds for me!”

Hitty Dot picks some seeds and tucks them into the hem of her dress.  “These will be kept safe until we go back inside” she says “now let’s go play on the machine!”

“Wow what kind of machine is this” asks Jody as they peer over the steering wheel.

“This is our persons tractor” explains Hitty Dot.  “Our person uses this to pull trees from around the pond and from out of the blueberry bushes, and to plant delicious food and she sometimes even uses it to dig holes for posts to go in for the fence when it needs to be repaired. ”

“Let’s drive it” exclaims Jody as she bounces on the seat.  “We can try” says Hitty Dot, “but I don’t know if I can turn the key.”

Hitty Dot tries and tries to crank the tractor, but no matter how hard she tries, the key will not turn.

“I’m not strong enough to turn the key” sighs Hitty Dot.  “But maybe we shouldn’t try driving it anyway, we can’t reach the seat, brakes and steering wheel alone, we’d need Hitty Elsie to help us.”

“Oh that’s ok” says Jody, “I think it’s best we ask our person to drive us around on it anyways, what if we fell off under those big tires?  We would get smooshed!”

“You’re right” said Hitty Dot, “Speaking of person, here she comes! Hurry, we have to hide before she catches us on the tractor!”

Hitty Dot and Jody run to a big pile of leaves they notice under the pecan tree.  “Hurry” says Hitty Dot.  “This is our persons sons fort where he and his sisters play, it’s just big enough for us to hide in.”

Hitty Dot starts throwing leaves in the air to cover themselves.

“Hurry Jody help me, we don’t have much time” Hitty Dot whispers as she throws more leaves.

Jody starts to giggle as she watches Hitty Dot trying to frantically cover them.

“Shhh” giggles Hitty Dot as they hide.  “We don’t want our person to hear us, she’ll go back inside soon and then we can play some more.”

Hitty Dot and Jody hide as their person calls their names.

“She can’t find us” giggles Jody.

“I know what” says Hitty Dot “I’m getting a bit chilled, let’s jump out and scare her then we won’t have to walk all the way home, she’ll carry us instead!”

“That’s a great idea” whispers Jody, “let’s count to three and then jump up and cry boo!”

“One….” they count, “two……THREE” they shout as the jump out of the leaves.

BOO they cry as their person laughs and picks them up.

“She knew where we were all this time” whispers Jody “she wasn’t scared at all”.

“Yes she did” laughed Hitty Dot “but she’s still carrying us home so we won’t have to walk anymore!”

Hitty Dot and Jody giggle all the way home, delighted with the fact that they were able to trick their person into carrying them.
