Photo of Pappy

After many months of searching, my husband finally found a relative, Bessie Shortridge, who had a photo of pappy in her possession.

Bessie is my 3rd cousin by marriage and she was kind enough to loan us the photo so I could scan it.

Below is Pappy with his wife “Mud” (nickname).   I had pictured Pappy being a farmer looking fellow with overalls and shaggy beard, so I must say I was amazed to finally see what he looked like.  He was a handsome fellow if I ever have seen one!

It’s so nice to have finally gotten the chance to see what pappy loooked like back in his day.

Who would have thought that when this photo was taken, that his work would continue to live on more than 100 years later and that pieces of his home and memories would be shared by so many different people in so many different areas of the world.

Thank you Pappy and Mud, you may not have been known by many when you were living, but your labor continues to be a blessing to others.  I hope that pieces of your home continue to last for another 150 (or more years) as the Log Cabin Hittys travel everywhere sharing joy and laughter wherever they go!

Back then, it was a big deal to have your picture made, so your image of Pappy might be right on any other day of his life. He’s clearing in his best duds, all fixed up for this special occasion, with his wife beside him and likely the other important piece in his hands, the “Good Book,” as they referred to to the Bible. Great pictures.
