I recently acquired this fabulous French doll manufactured by the SFBJ company in 1924 according to the markings on her head. She stands 20 inches tall, and altho she is not in mint condition (missng 2 fingers and some paint peeling) she’s a beauty to me.
After much consideration, I’ve decided to name her Juliet after the character in my favorite play of all time, written by my favorite author of all time “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare.
To many, Romeo and Juliet is considered a “love story” with a tragic ending. To me, it’s a story about more. It’s a story about how one should never resort to violence as a method for resolving problems, how one should control their anger and also a wonderful story about friendship.
This is a lesson my 8th grade teacher taught me when I got into a fight at school when I was a teen. Her punishment was for me and the girl I was fighting with, to watch the movie in after school detention.
Not only did me and the girl I was fighting with become great friends after our “punishment”, but this movie opened my eyes to the wonderful world of reading. Romeo and Juliet was the first book I ever read with my heart in it, and I have been reading like crazy ever since.
I hope to one day be able to sew beautiful dresses for Juliet. Until I can, I will be on the hunt for vintage clothing that I can recycle into beautiful gowns.
